Trains to the Planes

O'Hare International Airport is a critical asset to Chicago and the entire Midwest. It is the leading international connection for North America, offering direct connections to almost anywhere in the world.

But getting to the airport from many Midwestern cities is getting harder to do. Rising fuel costs threaten to make feeder flights uneconomic, while driving to the airport is expensive and a big hassle.

Fast and frequent trains linking cities and towns across the Midwest with O'Hare would expand the feeder network and could replace inefficient short-haul flights. Within the Chicago metropolitan area, express trains could link downtown Chicago and suburban business centers, bypassing the congested expressway system surrounding O'Hare.

Having a train station at O'Hare isn't just about getting more people on planes. It will work the other way around as well. O'Hare can become the main railroad station for the Northeast Suburbs, eliminating the need for suburban passengers to travel downtown to catch the train.

The first step is to extend the St. Louis - Chicago Amtrak trains to an expanded the O'Hare Transfer Metra station.
