Amtrak Trains Directly to O'Hare
The Illinois, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation are currently upgrading Amtrak service from Detroit, Kansas City, Milwaukee and St. Louis to Chicago.
Illinois and Michigan are rebuilding the track, installing new signaling systems and buying new trains to allow 110 mph speeds. Illinois Governor Quinn has proposed extending the St. Louis trains through Union Station to O'Hare.
Extending this route, and others, would allow downstate residents better access to O'Hare. Just as importantly, the station would give Northwest suburban residents better access to Amtrak.
Extending Amtrak will require a new O'Hare Transfer Station.
