O'Hare Direct

O'Hare Direct is our long-term vision for a network of new, passenger-only tracks serving O'Hare. The tracks would be shared by airport express trains, a new type of cross-region commuter train and long-distance high-speed trains.

Airport Express

Airport Express trains would provide superior airport access with dedicated airport trains operating on expedited schedules.

Airport express trains typically operate every fifteen minutes during peak travel hours, on schedules very competitive with taxis. Fares tend to run between $15 and $20 US.

O'Hare Direct express trains would offer both Economy and Business Class accommodations designed specifically for the air traveler. Low floors would allow easy access for those with luggage. Large, easy-to-reach luggage racks would be in plain view of all seats.

Stations would be co-located with Metra and intercity railroad stations in downtown Chicago and at key suburban locations.

The Chicago Department of Aviation has issue a request of information regarding a Downtown - O'Hare express train that could serve as the first link.

High-speed commuter trains

If combined with the proposed Star Line to Schaumburg and extended to the south suburbs, the new tracks could host express commuter trains linking key residential areas with employment centers.

High-Speed Trains

The Midwest High Speed Rail Association is advocating for an integrated network of high-speed trains linking the entire Midwest. The O'Hare Direct Network could be the "starter set" from which this network grows.
